Day 135: Purple Pasta

Day 135 of #365 Creative #Ideas to do with your kids: Have you made purple pasta before? Serve purple pasta and sing ‘The Purple People Eater’ song with your kids!
3 medium beetroots
500g pasta
olive oil
salt
grated cheese
You will need: a sense of humour!
1. Wash and peel the beetroot and steam until cooked. Retain the steaming water.
2. Add the pasta to the steaming water and cook until the pasta is done (add more water, if necessary). The pasta will become dyed as it cooks.
3. Drain the pasta and dress with a little olive oil and salt to taste.
4. Serve with grated cheese on the side.
Tip
• Purée the cooked beetroots and toss through the cooked pasta.
‘The Purple People Eater’,a novelty song written and performed by Sheb Wooley, reached the top of the US Billboard charts in 1958.
